About HeatPumpCalcs
Free, transparent UK heat pump calculators built and reviewed by an MCS-certified engineer. No quote forms. No data harvesting. Just accurate numbers based on real installer pricing.
Why this site exists
The UK heat pump market in 2026 is wildly opaque to consumers. Installer quotes for the same home can range from £9,000 to £18,000. Government incentive amounts depend on rules most homeowners can't decipher. Running cost claims swing wildly depending on whether they assume a smart tariff. And every "free quote tool" online is a thinly-disguised lead-generation funnel.
HeatPumpCalcs exists to give you the numbers — properly — before you talk to a single installer. Every calculator on this site:
- Runs entirely in your browser (no data sent anywhere)
- Uses Q1 2026 MCS-installer pricing averages
- Reflects the October 2025 Ofgem price cap and current Octopus tariff rates
- Is built on the current Boiler Upgrade Scheme rules from gov.uk
- Is reviewed for technical accuracy by James Thornton (see below)

How we make money
We're transparent about this: HeatPumpCalcs is funded by two revenue sources.
- Display advertising (Google AdSense) — non-intrusive ad slots are placed within calculator pages. We don't run interstitials, pop-ups, or autoplaying video ads.
- Installer referrals — when you click "Get free quotes," you're connected to MCS-certified installer partners. We earn a small referral fee per qualified lead. This never changes the price you're quoted — installers compete openly for your business, and our referral fee comes out of their marketing budget either way.
What we don't do: sell your data, run sponsored content, accept paid placements in calculator results, or favour any specific brand or installer in our editorial guidance.
Editorial independence
Our calculator outputs and content are independent of advertiser or referral partner influence. James reviews and signs off on every page before publication, and we publicly correct any errors readers flag. If you find an inaccuracy, please email us with the page and the issue.
Data sources
Every number on this site traces back to one of these sources:
- Ofgem — energy price cap (gas and electricity unit rates)
- MCS — installer certification, Heat Emitter Guide, eligible product list
- BEIS / DESNZ — Boiler Upgrade Scheme rules and applicable amounts
- NREL (US data, where comparing international standards)
- Octopus Energy — published Cosy and Go unit rates
- SAP 10 / SAP 11 — UK Standard Assessment Procedure for housing heat loss
- James's own dataset — pricing data from his customer quotes, 2024-2026
